Escape Room Style VR Experience in Dreamscape ASU

Our Team

With a team of multidisciplinary ASU Masters students, we created this VR experience in 4 weeks. We were inspired by escape rooms and adventure movies and wanted to replicate this feeling in our Dreamscape experience.

My Role

Dreamscape Pods

ASU Tempe campus’ Dreamscape utilizes head mounted displays and hand/foot sensors to allow immersants to move around in the “pod” and experience a virtual world. In the image shown, two immersants are viewing the end of the experience. Click the button below to view a YouTube video of the full experience.

Walkthrough of Experience

These images show the sequential scenes of the experience.

It starts in a forest. When the user clicks the glowing button, they are transported to a lighthouse. They get locked in! Luckily, there is a friendly ghost who helps them explore the multiple levels of the lighthouse.

They run into trouble on the final level, but, with the help of the ghost, the user escapes and ends up in the magical forest they were originally exploring.

3D Modeling

During this project, I learned Blender and was able to create assets from scratch. I now have a good understanding of the basic aspects of this 3D modeling software and feel comfortable taking on more complex projects knowing that I can rely on both my skills and the resources around me.
